SpaceX working with xAI opens up a lot of new opportunities.

If there was a good example for in-house dealings then Elon Musk pulling off this latest trick has to be at the top of the list. Musk has got his SpaceX to acquire xAI startup which has built the Grok AI chatbot among others. The news has been confirmed via post by SpaceX which suggests both these tech companies can widen the paradigm of space exploration with AI at the centrestage.

The first thing you can think of with these two companies is the potential to take AI data centres into space and it seems Musk and Co. are aligned to make it happen in the foreseeable future.

SpaceX And xAI: The Swiped Right Match?

Musk owns both the companies which does make it easier to manage the resources and align the strategy behind their merger. In terms of what this deal means, SpaceX claims this is the “most ambitious, vertically-integrated innovation engine on (and off) Earth, with AI, rockets, space-based internet, direct-to-mobile device communications and the world’s foremost real-time information and free speech platform.”

He shared the news via a post on X, which credits the full statement from SpaceX. Imagine, you have one company launching vehicles in space, with the ability to keep the internet running via satellite and also power them with AI technology. So, yes, this feels like a powerful match alright.

AI Data Centre In Space

Data centres are being set up on earth but the amount of natural resources they need to function can become a challenge in the near future. SpaceX feels that’s where the untapped power in space could become the cheapest way to generate AI computing power in the next two to three years. The company will launch AI satellites into deep space and harness a miniscule part of the Sun’s power.

And finally, you have Starship launching next-gen satellites to deliver direct-to-mobile internet services and offer full coverage everywhere on Earth. These are some ambitious plans for Musk but he is one step closer to fulfilling these objectives with the SpaceX and xAI now working in tandem.
