Gmail users were seeing all their spam emails in the main inbox
In the last few days, many users have complained about their Gmail inbox looking rather confused with some spam mails misclassified. The company also confirmed the issues with a report on its status dashboard, which highlighted this exact inbox issue.
Gmail has been separating promotional emails and spams into a different section but this problem meant users were seeing all the emails in the primary inbox that adds to the obvious clutter for millions. The spam filter tool was introduced to fix the mess but the glitch meant many were annoyed about the bombarding of spam emails right in front of their main inbox.
Google Fixes The Issue
Google was kept busy for over 48 hours with details around the issue and alerting users about what exactly caused this glitch with the spams. Some Gmail users experienced a misclassification of emails in their inbox, delays in receiving email,” the company said in a dashboard update. “Additionally, misclassified spam warnings from the incident may persist for existing messages received before the issue resolution.”
Google claims the issue has been fully resolved but we wait to hear more from the company as it publishes the full details about its internal investigation that caused the spam filtering issue.
The company has other big concerns to tackle at the same time. Gmail and other apps are getting AI-fied which means many people are worried about how their private data is used for training the AI systems. Gmail has assured that won’t happen but just to be on the safer side, people can disable the option to use the AI version of Gmail to completely avoid any mishap.
The company has also agreed to pay $68 million to settle a class action lawsuit that accused the company of secretly recording users through its smart devices, according to court documents filed in a federal court in Northern California, according to a report by the Hill.
The lawsuit centres on Google Assistant, the company’s voice-enabled tool that is designed to activate only when users say hot word phrases such as “Hey Google” or “Okay Google”, or when a button on the device is manually pressed. The plaintiffs alleged that the Assistant recorded conversations even when no such activation command was used.
