Chrome security issues are becoming far too frequent and the new critical alert comes with a warning.
Chrome users on Windows, Mac and Linux are at risk.
Just like Microsoft Edge, another Chromium engine version, Google Chrome has faced similar security issues for which the Indian government has raised an alert.
The latest Chrome security warning dated January 22, 2026 has been posted by the Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In) with a high severity ranking, which should not be taken lightly as it can severely impact millions of Chrome users in the country who will be extremely concerned by the details on offer.
What Is The Chrome Security Issue?
The CERT-In bulletin this week clearly highlights the issue in the Chrome browser and how it might affect the users. “A vulnerability exists in Google Chrome due to race condition error in V8. A remote attacker could exploit this vulnerability by persuading a victim to visit a specially crafted web page.”
The parts highlighted in the post are very important components built into the structure of the Chrome browser which is why the issue is serious enough for Google to take notice, and for the Indian government authorities to notify millions of users.
Chrome Security Issue: Who Is At Risk?
Chrome users on Windows, MacOS and Linux are being warned about the risks and these versions have been mentioned:
- Google Chrome versions prior to 144.0.7559.96/.97 for Windows/Mac
- Google Chrome versions prior to 144.0.7559.96 for Linux
If you have Chrome on your system and their version is one before these, we advise you to update the browser immediately. Google has also shared the details as well as the new patch updates for the affected versions.
Chrome users must download the latest available software update for Google Chrome on Windows, macOS and Linux. You can do this by heading over to the three-dot menu on Chrome – Settings – About – Update Chrome. Google has listed the security fixes that come with the stable channel update.
Chrome is going to become very critical for many users as Google looks to integrate Gemini AI features into its browser. In fact, Chrome could get agentic AI abilities which makes it an easy target for hackers, and Google needs to be mindful of these vulnerabilities before it wreaks havoc.
