Apple has some big plans for its AI push over the next few years and an AI wearable device could be part of that strategy.
Apple could be keen to rival OpenAI with its own AI device.
Apple has a lot of things planned to get AI push up and running in 2026 and a new report claims the company could add an AI wearable PIN to its lineup. Apple’s unique AI wearable is said to have three mics along with two cameras and you will be able to wear it on the clothes.
It sounds eerily similar to the Humane AI PIN that made a lot of noise and eventually fizzled out, later sold to HP for a partial sum within 2 years of launch. The report by The Information suggests Apple wants to give the wearable PIN another shot and we could see it in the market in the near future.
Apple’s AI Device Push: Wearable PIN
The wearable pin, as mentioned in the report, is said to be thin, flat and come in a disc-like circular shape made of aluminium and glass shell. The company’s product engineers are hoping to make it as big as the AirTag but expected to be slightly thicker to accommodate a bigger battery and cameras and microphones. AI hardware is going to be lining up in the market, and OpenAI is tipped to spearhead the new charge from later this year.
The report suggests Apple could accelerate the plans to make its own AI device to counter the OpenAI product and some expect the Apple device to launch sometime next year. AI chatbots have got the userbase and now these companies need the hardware to keep them hooked in, but we are not sure if the market really needs another AI Pin-like device that can be worn by people. After all, that’s what two ex-Apple employees had set out to achieve with the Humane AI PIN and look how it turned out.
Having said that, Apple could definitely have a bigger role to play in this space and its new-look Siri, powered by a custom Gemini AI model could finally show us that the company means business. The new Siri avatar will do everything that Gemini and ChatGPT offer for their users.
You can make it search on the web, generate AI images using prompts, analyse documents or even allow Siri to read content through your camera. Furthermore, this Siri will be integrated with other Apple products and it will cater to both text and voice-based conversations.
