Android security issue linked to a Dolby feature has been reported by Google and the Indian government has raised its own alert.
Android phones with this Dolby feature are at a critical risk
Google’s Android is facing a critical security risk which has got the Indian government actively warning the users to prevent them getting attacked. The latest alert comes via the Indian Computer Emergency Response Team or CERT-In this week and the critical severity rating means it needs your immediate attention. “A vulnerability has been reported in Google Android, which could allow a remote attacker to execute arbitrary code on the targeted system,” CERT-In has mentioned in its bulletin dated January 14, 2026.
Android Security Issue: What Is The Risk?
The security agency talks about the vulnerability existing in a vital component within Google’s Android platform. “This vulnerability exists in Google Android due buffer overflow in Dolby DD+ decoding leads to potential memory corruption and crashes.” This is linked to the Dolby Digital Plus technology which supports hi-res audio quality for better streaming music.
And issues like memory corruption means any possible exploit by a bad actor could lead to further data loss and other damages for the victim.
Google claims the target for this vulnerability could be anyone from an individual to an organisation relying on Android for their tasks. This is the Android version that is affected by the security issue:

Google says the patch has been issued directly by Dolby and Android users are required to install the latest Android security patch that has rolled out from different brands. You need the security patch 05-01-2026 or later installed on the Android device to address these security issues. You can check and install using these steps:
- Go to Settings
- Tap on System and update
- Check for new available software version
- Install the update and reboot the device
Google also assures that people running on Android 10 version or later will be offered a security patch with the same level of safety in the coming days.
