BSNL users are officially getting Voice over Wi-Fi or VoWiFi support that works for voice calls on the data network for mobile subscribers. Vodafone Idea (Vi), Jio and Airtel have supported the feature for a while and the domestic operator is finally offering the feature for all its users across the country.
BSNL says VoWiFi support will allow its users to stay connected even when the networks are not the best in their region. So what is VoWiFi feature and how does it help people with voice calls on the data? Here are the details.
What Is BSNL VoWiFi Support
BSNL says VoWiFi is an IMS-based service that allows Wi-Fi and mobile networks to interact between each other and deliver clear voice call quality. Having VoWi-Fi supported by an operator means the subscriber can make and receive voice calls and even messages running over the Wi-Fi network near them. This is helpful when you are in dark network spots at home, in offices or even the basement for that matter.
VoWi-Fi is a free feature that doesn’t need any app to work and is bundled into your device settings by the operator SIM card that you use on your phone.
BSNL VoWiFi Feature: How To Enable It
Like we mentioned, you don’t need a special app on the phone to support the VoWi-Fi feature for voice calls. Here’s how you can enable the tool for your device:
- Go to Settings on your phone
- Tap on Mobile network
- Tap on the SIM1 option with your number
- Scroll down to Wi-Fi calling option
- Turn on the toggle button to have the VoWi-Fi feature working for your number
The VoWiFi feature on BSNL network will be available if you have a phone that supports the technology. You can check in the device settings for that or also head over to the BSNL website to get more details. You will start seeing the Wi-Fi icon next to the network bar at the top of the screen of the phone when you get a call.
