iPhone Fold is launching next year and it seems Samsung could give it a big fight with the Galaxy Fold model in 2026. And a new report claims Samsung is likely to launch another foldable along with the Galaxy Fold 8 series to give the iPhone maker a tough fight in the arena. The details offered by ETNews in its report claims Samsung is working on a wider foldable product which will be launching close on the heels of the iPhone Fold debut later next year.
Wider Galaxy Foldable: But Why?
The report from South Korea feels rather speculative, especially because we don’t really see the point of making a wider foldable just to compete with Apple. It says the model will feature a 7.6-inch inner screen along with a smaller 5.4-inch cover display. The wider profile means you have a passport-like design with 4:3 aspect ratio.
The cover-like profile is mostly going to cater to the audience that will be eyeing the iPhone foldable. But Samsung has shown its prowess with a Galaxy Fold 7 that ticked most of the boxes, including the compact design and flagship features.
While we get the idea behind a product like that, thinking about it and making one is a different matter, especially when you have to spend billions on designing and selling the product in the market. Apple will undoubtedly have the bigger pull with a foldable iPhone (likely to be called iPhone Fold), even though Samsung is the undisputed name in the arena.
We would prefer to hear more about the product from the company, because the launch plans could deviate if the device doesn’t meet the standards, especially to compete with Apple’s product.
More importantly, Samsung could have a bigger room to price the foldable aggressively, something that Apple can be more flexible with because of its aspirational value in the market. The Apple foldable is widely awaited but could Samsung steal its thunder again? We’ll know soon.
