The inevitable AI price hike is going to be brutal

The year is ending and strangely you are seeing online deals from different brands as well as platforms. It is hardly a surprise and the reason is that buying in 2025-end will probably save you some extra money before the imminent price hike that lingers in early 2026. 

We have seen quite a lot said about the AI push from tech giants and it seems most people forgot that to keep these AI machines running, they will need hardware, and that excessive demand is forcing a rethink among companies that actually make the components. 

And when the same hardware parts are needed in other segments, the supply crunch is knocking on the doors quite loudly. Long story short, buying laptops and phones are going to become expensive and we suggest you do it right now. 

The Price-AI Effect: How Does It Matter? 

As you might have realised, the demand for memory chips has gone up drastically, so much that manufacturers in this space are ready to give up their consumer business and make the components that fetch them a higher price. This is typical Business 101 and Economics 101 which is being played out right in front of our eyes. 

Most industry experts say this is unlikely to be a short-term bubble and could extend well into 2027 which is a 24-month stretch of brutal market shift. RAM is the main crux hardware that is needed for phones, laptops, PCs, car systems and even your TVs and smart home devices. When the RAM prices go up, which they already have, you witness a price-to-value variance that has not affected the industry in such a big way. 

You want to buy a phone with 16GB RAM, it might have cost you Rs 70,000 before, but now that 16GB RAM might be Rs 15,000 pricier which forces the brand to go with a 12GB RAM but for the same price. Similar changes with the laptops.

Unless you are Apple, the 16GB RAM offering, which is now a requirement for Windows 11, could be hard to sell at the current prices and there lies the problem. 

Buying Now Makes Sense 

So if you want the best value for the money product without seeing the RAM price effect, the time to buy that premium phone or the AI laptop is now. You might have wanted to bide your time and invest on the right product, probably with a good deal, which is a fair way to handle these tasks. But the RAM Tsunami is coming much faster than you can imagine and it will blow the whole market into a different space. 

Get the iPhone 17 before Apple increases its price, or look for the best deals on MacBook Air or a Windows laptop before the stocks run out. This is an urgent plea and hopefully people understand what’s coming at them in the next three to four months before it’s too late.
