Apple’s new macOS 26.2 update has a useful feature
Apple’s big iOS 26.2 update has rolled out this week for iPhone users but besides that a big change has come with the macOS 26.2 version for Mac users. You might have heard about Edge Light on Macs that works like a ring light for video calls.
Apple is now bringing this feature to select Mac models running the latest macOS version and help you take video meetings in any condition. If you have the right machine, Edge light is now available and over here we give you a step-to-step guide for the feature and how it works.
Edge Light For Macs: What Is It And How To Set Up
Edge light is Apple’s version of ring light that works in macOS and allows you to light up the screen to see the person on the video call. The big reason why ring lights became so common was because of all the meetings that people attended virtually during the pandemic, as well as the creator market. After all these years, Apple has decided to have its own version of the ring light built into the platform that runs the Mac systems.
How Edge Light Works On Mac
Setting up Edge light is quite easy and seamless like most Apple features and works when you have a video call in progress:
- Click on the Camera icon from the video menu
- Click on Edge Light to enable/disable the feature for the call
- You can adjust the light level and colour of the light to give you the best presence during the call
Apple also has an option to automatically enable edge light when it detects the ambient light is low
Edge Light With macOS 26.2 Update: Which Devices Supported
The edge light sounds really useful but knowing Apple its support is limited to the latest Mac devices launched in the market. In addition to having the macOS 26.2 version, you will need any of the M-series MacBook, iMac or Mac Mini to get the Edge Light support.
Apple also says if you want the auto-enable feature for Edge light in low light conditions you need the 2024 Mac or later model. It can work with the built-in camera of your Mac, or even from the external camera via the Continuity feature.
