Virat Kohli scored his record-extending 53rd ODI century for India in Raipur on Wednesday (December 3). In the match taking place at Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh International Stadium, the 37-year-old right-handed batter needed 90 balls to reach the 100-run mark. The century in Raipur is Kohli’s 84th century in international cricket, and he is now only 16 short of equalling Sachin Tendulkar’s record of 100 centuries in international cricket.
Kohli, who now only plays ODI cricket for India, has a realistic chance of not just equalling Sachin’s tally but also breaking it.
Most 100s in international cricket
| PLAYER | COUNTRY | MATCHES | 100s |
| Sachin Tendulkar | India | 664 | 100 |
| Virat Kohli | India | 555 | 84 |
| Ricky Ponting | Australia | 560 | 71 |
| Kumar Sangakkara | Sri Lanka | 594 | 63 |
| Jacques Kallis | South Africa | 519 | 62 |
He will play one more ODI in the ongoing series at Vizag on Saturday (December 6) and three against New Zealand in January 2026. Team India will travel to England in July 2026 for three ODIs against the English team, and Kohli, in all likelihood, will be picked up for that away series as well.
Between the England series in July next year and the ODI World Cup 2027, where India will play at least six league matches, India will play a couple of home series along with the Asia Cup, which possibly means that Kohli will have at least 20 ODIs to score 17 centuries and break Sachin’s record of most centuries in international cricket.
