More AI: Microsoft Is Offering More Tools For Notepad And People Don’t Know Why | Tech News

Notepad has become the hub for more AI features at Microsoft and the app has moved beyond just note taking for many users because of this. Every tech company is showing off its focus on AI and Microsoft is no different. 

But users are not sure why Notepad, a simple app, needs all the AI chops to clutter the platform when its purpose is simple and easy. And we get their point, because Notepad has already become the victim of WordPad going away and with the AI integration (did we need it), you could see the app becoming clunky and probably not at its lightest. 

Notepad With AI: But Why? 

If you browse across forums, the question around Notepad getting an AI upgrade has been pointed out by any users. Yes, there have been some useful additions, like spell check, dark mode and ability to save multiple tabs in one file. Some have even felt that killing WordPad has put further pressure on Notepad to replace and double up as more than just a note taking app. 

The AI fatigue is already a term that many have used and adding tools like AI rewrite, summarise and even auto writing makes the Notepad a superpad, and we’re not sure how many of them really asked for all this. We’ve heard reports about Notepad even getting Agentic AI powers which again makes us ask the question, how much AI is too much? 

Which brings us to another AI-related subject. By now we all agree that ChatGPT and other AI chatbots are capable of advising users about health issues, scrolling through the internet for more data but they can’t tell the time. Yes, this has been pointed out in multiple reports, which suggests AI can only do what people train them for and it seems telling What’s the time is not part of that mandate. 

This means if you don’t train ChatGPT to understand time as we know and use it, it cannot help you with the answer for that particular prompt. When you ask ChatGPT to tell the time, it suggests you check the clock on your phone, laptop or any other device.
