Pichai talks about the good and bad about vibe coding

Google chief Sundar Pichai has raised excitement around the whole trend of vibe coding and also warned about its possible impact on the industry in the near future. Vibe coding has made the whole concept more open and allowed non-techies to enter the space and try out stuff that was restrictive for decades.

Pichai claims vibe coding could have a ‘YouTube like impact in the market, as it offers AI development tools to millions who have never written a code or have the expertise for the subject.

He feels coding has become fun again because of vibe coding as it opens the gates for further creativity without any leash over structure. It is interesting to see Google chief highlight the change in the paradigm which might help many but could also hinder them at the same time.

Vibe Coding Is The Future?

The whole purpose of vibe coding has opened up more avenues for non-techies who can actually train themselves in the AI tools and expand their job horizons. Pichai saying YouTube-like impact seems accurate because the platform allowed laymen to record video and earn millions.

Vibe coding has the potential to do just that, and also get more people working in a field where they were never trained. Having a fresh set of ideas from non-techie also enhances the profile of the company and it seems he understands the value of having these add-ons into the ecosystem.

Early Risks Exist

Having said that, Pichai admits the vibe coding doesn’t work flawlessly for large language models and that’s where the experts earn their big money. The role of vibe coding is currently limited to basic tasks and anything crucial will be handled by the engineers. But the Google chief (and others) clearly see a value in making this system work, evolve and become better to handle the tough matters in the years to come.
