Ace batter Virat Kohli’s antics on the boundary line saw his teammates laughing out loud, ahead of India’s innings in the first ODI against South Africa in Ranchi on Sunday. Kohli later went on to score his 83rd international hundred, taking India to a respectable score.
With Kohli no longer part of T20Is and only six ODIs scheduled for India in the next eight months or so, every outing in the format now comes with significance.
Ahead of the start of India’s knock, Kohli was seen showing some moves on the boundary line, leaving Rohit Sharma, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Kuldeep Yadav and Rishabh Pant in splits.

Despite all his light-hearted off-field antics, Kohli answered every doubter the only way he knows, with authority. A reminder to selectors and team management that he is still India’s most dependable ODI batter.
Rohit too had a great platform to assert himself after being dropped at one, but he could make only 57 before being trapped by Marco Jansen.
Still, their 136-run partnership in the much-hyped RoKo show offered reassurance to the two stalwarts and to the team management that they are very much still built for the big stage and have more to give India.
It was a flat pitch, but the South African bowlers were also guilty of not bowling a probing line and length.
Kohli walked in early after Yashasvi Jaiswal’s 18 ended via a faint edge off Nandre Burger and the Ranchi crowd anticipated a reunion worth waiting for.
Rohit survived a sitter at one, spilt by Tony de Zorzi at mid-wicket and capitalised on the reprieve to settle in before unleashing a flurry of boundaries off Jansen and Corbin Bosch.
