Hours after getting appointed as India’s captain in the Under-19 Asia Cup, Ayush Mhatre grabbed eyeballs with his ferocious knock in the ongoing Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. Batting against Vidarbha, the 18-year-old smashed an unbeaten 110 off 53 balls in the chase of 193. His knock helped Mumbai beat Vidarbha by 7 wickets in Lucknow and maintain an unbeaten streak in the ongoing T20 domestic tournament.
Ayush was phenomenal during his stay in the crease. Carrying his bat, the teenager smashed 8 fours and as many maximums, striking at 207.55. While he stood out as the top scorer for Mumbai, the likes of Suryakumar Yadav and Shivam Dube contributed 35 and 39 runs, respectively. Ajinkya Rahane fell for a 2-ball duck while wicketkeeper-batter Hardik Tamore scored 1 off 3.
Earlier, Vidarbha went off to a flying start after being asked to bat first. Openers Atharva Taide and Aman Mokhade stitched a century stand for the first wicket, bringing up their respective fifties. For Mumbai, Dube was the pick of the bowlers, returning 3 for 31, while Siraj Patil also picked up 3 for 33 in 4 overs.
Vaibhav Suryavanshi Scores 13 off 9
In another fixture, between Bihar and Madhya Pradesh at Eden Gardens, Kolkata, Suryavanshi endured another failure in the ongoing SMAT 2025. Although he got off to a dynamic start, he couldn’t capitalise on it as his team failed to chase 175 in 20 overs.
Suryavanshi hit a four and a six during his 9-ball stay. Bipin Saurabh was the top scorer for Bihar, accumulating 32 off 24. Madhya Pradesh won the game by 62 runs.
Mhatre Named India Captain For U-19 Asia Cup
The BCCI on Friday announced India’s squad for the 2025 U-19 Asia Cup via X. The 15-member team, set to compete in Dubai from December 12, will be led by 18-year-old Mumbai batter Ayush Mhatre, with Vihaan Malhotra named as his deputy.
