Android phones are getting AirDrop thanks to Google and now other brands will be getting the support for file transfer with iPhones
Not just Google, other brands will soon support AirDrop on Android
Google has unlocked Apple’s walled garden by making file transfer between Android and iPhone possible. Yes, AirDrop now works with non-Apple devices but is currently limited to the Pixel 10 phones. However, there is good news for other Android users, who will soon get the support for the cross platform file transfer thanks to Qualcomm.
Google is using its own Tensor chip for Pixel devices so many assumed that the feature will be locked for its products but Qualcomm has shared the update which says more Snapdragon-powered devices will get AirDrop support soon.
AirDrop For More Android Devices: What We Know
Android file transfers to the iPhone has been a dream for many but Google has made it happen with its own integration that allows AirPods to interact with Android phones, specifically the Pixel 10 models.
But Snapdragon getting this support means you don’t need a Google device to use the feature, it can be done with a OnePlus, Nothing or even a Realme phone in the near future. That’s not all, Qualcomm could even make AirDrop compatible with its X- series PC chips as well as Android tablets.
“We’re introducing a way for Quick Share to work with AirDrop. This makes file transfer easier between iPhones and Android devices,” as highlighted in a post by Google marking this significant change.
The fact that Google’s Quick Share is compatible with AirDrop means you just need to select the iPhone and the file transfer option will reflect on the receiving device. “We built this with security at its core, protecting your data with strong safeguards that were tested by independent security experts,” the company assures.
Apple has been quiet since the feature was announced but for now Google is only letting you use the new Quick Share option if you have any of the latest Pixel 10 series devices. Qualcomm making the big reveal means it won’t be long before we see other Android phones working with AirDrop and supporting cross platform file transfer in a seamless manner.
