Ace India batter Virat Kohli on Monday expressed his condolences at the passing of Bollywood actor Dharmendra, who breathed his last at the age of 89 in Mumbai earlier in the day.

Dharmendra, the iconic actor whose 65-year career and 300-film legacy stretched from Satyakam to Sholay, has passed away at the age of 89, as per a police statement. There has been no confirmation from the family yet.

Born Dharam Singh Deol in Punjab in 1935, Dharmendra enjoyed a stellar six-decade career, starring in over 300 films and leading timeless classics like Sholay, Chupke Chupke, Satyakam, Anupama, Seeta Aur Geeta and many more.

Today, we have lost a legend of Indian cinema who captivated hearts with his charm and his talent. A true icon who inspired everyone who watched him. May the family find strength in this tough time. My sincere condolences to the whole family. 🙏🙏,” Kohli tweeted on Monday evening.

Dharmendra is survived by his wife, Prakash Kaur; Hema Malini; sons Sunny and Bobby Deol and daughters Vijeta, Ajeeta, Esha and Ahana.

Every home had a favourite Dharmendra film. He was a part of our growing up and of India’s finest years in cinema,” former Indian cricketer Yuvraj Singh tweeted.

I, like many others, took an instant liking to Dharmendra ji, the actor, who entertained us with his versatility,” batting legend Sachin Tendulkar tweeted.

You stood tall, not just in stature, but in spirit. Dharmendra ji, thank you for showing us that strength can be kind,” Shikhar Dhawan tweeted.
