WhatsApp Brings New Update For Your ‘About Me’ Feature: What It Means | Tech News

WhatsApp has offered About me for a long time but the new version brings more options for the users on mobile.

WhatsApp has revised its About section with new options

WhatsApp is changing the way your About Me feature works on the platform. This section is available when a person taps on your profile picture in a chat and sees what you have shared. Now, the messaging app is giving you the choice to add emojis to these statuses and also enhance the message you want people to know, and for how long.

This sounds like another big change to the app with the Meta element in play, and making it similar to Instagram in more than one way.

WhatsApp ‘About Me’ Changes: What You Get

The new look About Me on WhatsApp comes with a timer so that you can share messages for an hour, for a day or even a week. You also have the option to add a status with emojis. These messages can be kept private by making them visible to your contacts or everyone, based on what you like doing. The new options can be used by doing this:

  • Tap on profile photo on the top-right
  • Tap on About
  • Add a new status with the duration
  • Click on enter (check box) and let everyone see the new status

The new About option has been reintroduced this month and WhatsApp mobile users are gradually getting the new feature from this week onwards.

WhatsApp has also been in the news for other worrying reasons this month. WhatsApp users have been warned about the major security risk that affects billions of users relying on the messaging app to send chats, images and more. The alert from the security agency of the Indian government mentions that if hackers exploit the issues they can bypass the device security to cause havoc.

WhatsApp is popular and used by many across the globe but it also makes it extremely appealing to bad actors who are waiting to pounce on a serious vulnerability with the platform. The Indian Computer Emergency Response Team or CERT-In has been alerted about such a threat and is warning everyone about its risks.
