Tim Cook has been Apple’s CEO since 2011 and his reign at the tech giant could be coming to an end soon.
Tim Cook has been Apple’s long serving CEO
Apple CEO Tim Cook to leave his position next year? There are strong rumours about John Ternus taking over the reigns as early as 2026 but now a new report seems to have cooled down the rumours. Cook is expected to move on but he is unlikely to go at least before the iPhone 18 series launch in September 2026, Bloomberg has mentioned in its report.
He has been instrumental in Apple’s growth and evolution into a tech behemoth, earning trillions in market value and this is expected to give Cook enough credit in the bank to decide his exit.
Tim Cook Staying, For Now
The report cites the Financial Times piece which mentioned that Cook could be standing down from his position by July 2026 but the new details suggest otherwise. That’s not all, the Bloomberg report hints at Cook continuing his stint at Apple however, with a new role of Chairman being heavily mooted when he decides to move from the CEO position at the company.
John Ternus has a strong hardware background, something that Cook doesn’t have, but his marketing prowess has played a big role in the company’s overall growth since taking over in 2011. This is the longest stint by any Apple CEO in its history, and Ternus will have big boots to fill and expectations will be high.
Having said that, Apple has generally been sound about its approach towards succession, and Ternus is likely to have been shepherded towards this role for many years.
We’ve seen him introduce the new M-series chips over the last few years, which has given him a solid public appearance factor and leading the iPhone maker will demand more than just announcing the new products but also handle the big tasks at hand, including shaping the next few decades of the company.
If these rumours come through, the WWDC 2026 and the iPhone 18 series launch could be the last keynotes from Cook as the chief of the company.
