Earthquake halted play durinng 2nd Test day between Bangladesh and Ireland (X)
Play was halted in Mirpur at the Shere Bangla National Stadium during the first session on day three of the second Test match between Bangladesh and Ireland as an earthquake struck Dhaka on Friday.
The on-air commentators said that tremors were felt in the commentary box as the Irish players emerged from their dressing room and gathered near the boundary rope. Spectators in the stands, too, were a little shaken, but after a momentary halt in proceedings, play resumed.

In the first session, the Irish team displayed patience despite losing 2 wickets, managing to score 113 runs. Stephen Doheny and Lorcan Tucker, who walked out under some pressure with Ireland at 98/5, capitalised on inconsistent bowling to accumulate a significant number of boundaries. Their 81-run partnership brought stability before an earthquake literally struck Dhaka.
Earlier on Day 2, hundreds from senior batters Mushfiqur Rahim and Litton Das placed Bangladesh in a commanding position. Resuming at 340 for 5, Bangladesh posted an impressive total of 476, largely thanks to a vital 123-run partnership between the seasoned players. Mushfiqur, who started the day on 99, reached his 13th Test century with a quick single and became only the eleventh cricketer to score a hundred in his 100th Test. He was eventually dismissed for 106 by debutant Matthew Humphreys. Litton also reached his century in an aggressive manner, hitting a six and a four to get to triple figures.
Ireland’s bowlers found some success in the morning, with Andy McBrine claiming his second six-wicket haul in Tests. Humphreys and Gavin Hoey each took two wickets, marking the first time Ireland’s spinners claimed all ten wickets in a Test innings.
However, Ireland’s batting response was disappointing, as they slipped to 98 for 5 by stumps. Paul Stirling started positively but was dismissed for 27, and wickets continued to fall against Bangladesh’s spin attack. Hasan Murad delivered the ball of the day to dismiss Curtis Campher, while Taijul Islam and Mehidy Hasan Miraz also struck. By the end of play, Stephen Doheny and Lorcan Tucker were attempting to stabilise the innings, but Bangladesh remained firmly in control.
