The airport confirmed the temporary suspension in an advisory issued earlier this week, stressing that the closure is part of essential infrastructure upkeep to maintain safety, reliability and alignment with international aviation standards.
In a post on X, Mumbai airport said, “CSMIA will observe a scheduled runway closure on 20 November 2025 between 1100 hrs and 1700 hrs IST for annual post-monsoon maintenance. Thank you for your support as we continue to prioritise safe and efficient operations.”

Airport authorities also noted that a mandatory NOTAM (Notice to Airmen) had been circulated six months in advance, allowing airlines and other stakeholders sufficient time to amend their schedules and plan around the shutdown.
During the maintenance window, specialised engineering and airside teams will carry out detailed inspections of the runway surfaces, including both micro and macro structural elements that naturally degrade over time due to continuous aircraft movement.

CSMIA is one of the busiest single-runway airports in the world, managing close to 900 flights each day. The facility spans roughly 1,033 acres, with its airside infrastructure comprising a dense system of runways, taxiways and aircraft aprons.
