Star Indian middle-order batter Shreyas Iyer suffered an injury while fielding in the third India-Australia ODI at Sydney Cricket Ground on October 25. He was admitted to a hospital in Sydney for treatment and was reportedly in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) for a couple of days. After spending around a week in the hospital, Iyer is recovering now, and on Monday (November 10), he took to Instagram Stories to share a post via which he provided a fresh update about his recovery.

The Mumbai-based cricketer shared a picture of him from the beach, and he captioned the post, “The sun’s been great therapy. Grateful for all the love and care.”

According to BCCI release on November 1, Iyer suffered a blunt injury to his abdomen.

“Shreyas Iyer sustained a blunt injury to his abdomen while fielding during the third ODI against Australia on 25th October 2025, resulting in a laceration of his spleen with internal bleeding. The injury was promptly identified, and the bleeding was immediately arrested following a minor procedure. He has undergone appropriate medical management for the same.”

“He is now stable and recovering well. The BCCI Medical Team, along with specialists in Sydney and India, are pleased with his recovery, and he has been discharged from the hospital today. The BCCI extends its heartfelt gratitude to Dr Koroush Haghighi and his team in Sydney, along with Dr Dinshaw Pardiwala in India, for ensuring Shreyas received the best treatment for his injury. Shreyas will continue to stay in Sydney for follow-up consultations and will return to India once he is deemed fit to fly,” the release added.

Iyer, who scored a half-century for India in the second ODI against Australia played at Adelaide Oval on November 23, is likely to remain out of action for quite some time now. He was not included in the India A squad for the upcoming three-match one-day series against South Africa A on November 5, and it will be interesting to see if he is fit enough to feature in the three-match ODI series between India and South Africa.

The three one-day matches between India and South Africa will be played in Ranchi, Raipur and Visakhapatnam on November 30, December 3 and December 6, respectively.

The Ajit Agarkar-led BCCI’s senior men’s selection committee will meet in the coming days to pick India’s squad for the white-ball series in front of home fans against the Proteas.
