Rajasthan Royals might trade their skipper, Sanju Samson, to the Chennai Super Kings for not just Ravindra Jadeja, but also for Sam Curran, according to a report in ESPNCricinfo. Rajasthan, who finished a lowly ninth, are visibly targeting more all-rounders, if the report is considered.

As per the report, both teams have held discussions with the three cricketers involved, though neither franchise confirmed the development when contacted by the publication.

Both RR and CSK must submit an expression of interest naming the three cricketers involved in the proposed trade to the IPL governing council. According to trading regulations, once the cricketers provide written consent, the teams can proceed with further discussions to finalise the deal, which will then require approval from the governing council.

Samson and Jadeja have been long-time mainstays of their respective teams. The former has represented RR for 11 seasons, while Jadeja has been with CSK since 2012, except during the 2016 and 2017 suspensions.

After IPL 2025, Samson had expressed a desire for a change and requested to be released by RR.

Jadeja was retained by CSK ahead of the 2025 mega auction for a whopping Rs 18 crore, making him the team’s second retained cricketer after captain Ruturaj Gaikwad. Alongside former skipper MS Dhoni, Jadeja has been a key part of CSK’s core and has contributed to three of their five title triumphs.

Jadeja was instrumental in CSK’s 2023 title triumph, delivering last-over heroics with the bat against the Gujarat Titans. It was his best season with the ball as well, claiming 20 wickets.

Jadeja carried that form into the following year, scoring 301 runs in the season, including two fifties.

Jadeja has featured in 254 IPL games, the fifth-most in the tournament’s history, behind Dhoni, ace India batter Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma and Dinesh Karthik. With 143 wickets, Jadeja is CSK’s all-time leading wicket-taker, boasting the best figures of 5/16.

Jadeja shares the record for most Player-of-the-Match awards with Dhoni as well. Appointed CSK’s skipper three years ago, he relinquished the role midway through the season after a poor start.
