Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s matches in the 2026 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) may move out of M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. According to a report in the Times of India on Thursday (November 6), the iconic stadium in Bengaluru has not received clearance from the authorities to host matches since the stampede took place on June 4 during Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s IPL victory parade.

It was due to this reason that Bengaluru was not included in the list of venues shortlisted to host the matches of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026.

As per sources, there is no certainty if M Chinnaswamy Stadium will get to host IPL matches.

“There are a lot of uncertainties regarding Chinnaswamy. It has to revisit its structure, and the government authorities must be looking into it. That’s why it was not considered,” an ICC source was quoted as saying by TOI.

In IPL every year, M Chinnaswamy Stadium host seven league matches of RCB, and in addition to that, in 2014 and 2016, it also hosted the IPL final.

Colombo back up for T20 WC final

Delhi’s Arun Jaitley Stadium, Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium, Chennai’s MA Chidambaram Stadium, Kolkata’s Eden Gardens and Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium will host the matches of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026.

According to a report in the Times of India, the summit clash will be played at the world’s biggest cricket stadium in Ahmedabad.

The matches of the Pakistan men’s cricket team are likely to take place in Colombo.

It has also been reported that Colombo will get a chance to host a semi-final only if either Sri Lanka or Pakistan qualify for the semis, and the summit clash will be played at R. Premadasa Stadium in case Pakistan make it to the title clash.

20 teams to take part

A total of 20 teams will feature in the 2026 edition of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup. Like the 2024 edition, teams will be divided into four groups of five each, and the top two teams from each group will qualify for the Super 8s. In Super 8s, teams will be divided into two groups of four each, and the top two teams from each group will make it to the semifinals.
