5 Unique Coincidences On Dev Diwali
This year’s Dev Diwali is considered especially significant due to five rare celestial alignments:
- Kartik Purnima Snan (Holy Bath): Taking a ritual bath on this day is believed to cleanse one’s sins.
- Hansraj Yoga: Formed by Jupiter’s exalted position, bringing wisdom and prosperity.
- Ruchak Raja Yoga: Created by Venus in Libra, Rahu in Aquarius, and Mars in Scorpio.
- Shukraditya Yoga: The conjunction of the Sun and Venus in Libra enhances creativity and success.
- Sarvartha Siddhi Yoga and Siddhi Yoga: Both yogas are present on Kartik Purnima, amplifying auspicious results.

Dev Diwali Puja Vidhi
- Bathe and wear clean clothes during the auspicious time.
- Clean your place of worship thoroughly.
- Anoint Lord Shiva or the Shivalinga with Ganga water. Offer rice, sandalwood paste, flowers, Bel leaves, honey, fruits, and Naivedya.
- Chant ‘Om Namah Shivaya’, recite the Shiva Chalisa, and listen to the story of Dev Diwali, which recounts Lord Shiva’s victory over Tripurasura.
- Perform aarti with a lamp filled with cow ghee or camphor.
- Light an 8- or 12-faced lamp for Lord Shiva.

- Number of Lamps: On this night, light 5, 7, 11, 51, or 101 earthen lamps using mustard or sesame oil.
- Mantra for Lighting Lamps: Shubham Karoti Kalyanam Arogyam Dhanasampada.
- Salutation to the Lamp: Deepo Jyoti Parambrahma Deepo Jyotir Janardana, Deepo Haratu Me Paapam Sandhyadeep Namostute.
Where To Light The Earthen Lamps?
- Light nine lamps for the nine planets.
- One lamp each for Lord Shiva, Goddess Parvati, Lord Ganesha, Lord Kartikeya, Lord Vishnu, and Goddess Lakshmi.
- A ghee lamp near the Tulsi plant for purity.
- A lamp with mustard or sesame oil near the Shami tree (if present).
- Two lamps at the main entrance and one on the Rangoli in the courtyard.
- A lamp in the kitchen for blessings from Goddess Annapurna.
- A lamp near the Peepal tree and for ancestors to bring peace to departed souls.
- Place a lamp near the door of every room in the house.
- If there’s a temple or river nearby, light lamps there as well.
Dev Diwali In Kashi
The grandest celebration of Dev Diwali takes place in Kashi, Uttar Pradesh. At dusk, the ghats along the Ganges sparkle with countless lamps, creating a mesmerising sight.
According to legend, after Lord Shiva defeated Tripurasura, all gods and goddesses descended to Kashi to celebrate, and thus began the tradition of Dev Diwali, the Festival of Lights of the Gods.
