Moody will reunite with his former Western Australia and Australia teammate Justin Langer, who continues as head coach and work alongside Kane Williamson, appointed as the franchise’s strategic advisor.

Moody, who turned 60 last month, is regarded as one of the game’s most accomplished coaches, with over two decades of experience leading international and franchise teams.

Earlier this summer in England, Moody guided the Oval Invincibles to their third successive Hundred title as head coach. He served in a similar capacity with the Desert Vipers in the ILT20 as well, where he enjoyed successful campaigns, with the franchise finishing runners-up in both 2023 and this year.

As per the report, both Surrey and Reliance Industries Limited, the owners of the Mumbai Indians, who acquired a 49% stake in the Invincibles earlier this year, were eager to retain Moody.

The report adds that the Australian cricketer chose to take the Lucknow offer as it gave him a larger role. Lucknow, owned by the RP Sanjiv Goenka Group, have yet to make Moody’s appointment official and the duration of his contract remains unconfirmed.

Moody will return to the Indian Premier League for the first time since parting ways with the Sunrisers Hyderabad after the 2022 season. It will mark his third association in the league, after a successful stint as head coach from 2013 to 2019, during which Hyderabad won the 2016 title against the Royal Challengers Bengaluru.

Moody later rejoined as director of cricket in 2021 before being reinstated as head coach the following year after Trevor Bayliss’s departure.
