Ashish N Soni showcased exceptional tailoring, construction, and textile innovation with R|Elan™’s innovative, breathable fabrics.
Ashish N Soni showcased his collection, The Soirée at the Grand Budapest Hotel at Lakmē Fashion Week x FDCI in New Delhi.
Ashish N Soni’s collection The Soirée at the Grand Budapest Hotel in collaboration with R|Elan™, stemmed not from drawings or inspiration, but from ‘fabric’. The Lakme Fashion Week X FDCI runway transformed into a grand reception with Soni bringing elegant and future-forward occasion wear crafted from innovative R|Elan™ fabrics such as GreenGold, Kooltex, and FeelFresh.
Speaking to News18 post the exceptional showcase, Ashish N Soni thanked R|Elan™ for trusting him with the fabric and his vision for the collection. “I have to give credit to R|Elan™ because they trusted me, impeccably. We worked completely like a team. We were speaking almost four or fives times a week. I actually had a lot of developments that they especially did for me. For instance, we developed a fabric using R|Elan™ Kooltex and bamboo. A lot of shirts, the one where the fabrics were flowing, were made from it. And with that level of trust, I was under pressure to deliver. It was an amazing experience for me to have worked with R|Elan™,” expresses Ashish N Soni.
A Monochrome Masterpiece
Unlike American filmmaker Wes Anderson’s love for colour, Ashish N Soni chose black as the canvas for the collection, The Soirée at the Grand Budapest Hotel. The monochrome palette formed an opulent narrative on the runway as models exuded elegance and glamour in fluid gowns, tailored suits, dramatic skirts, deconstructed shirts and Ashish’s iconic collarless bandhgalas.
When asked about this choice of colour palette and why he chose black? “I’m going to avoid the obvious. Wes Anderson is known for a lot of colour and I said, okay, I’m going to steer away from that. And how about we go austere and we look at doing only black. Two things will come out of it. One, am I a good tailor? And second, how impeccably I bring finesse to the fabrics? Because any flaw will show more in black than any other colour. So, I took on that challenge and I said that I’m going to put my entire tailoring prowess into this collection.
The Collection – The Soirée at the Grand Budapest Hotel
The showcase inspired by the charm of the Grand Budapest Hotel blended opulence with precision on the runway. “The collection reimagines evening wear as architecture in motion. For women, sculpted shoulders and cinched waists are softened by draping, creating silhouettes that are both commanding and sensual. For men, sharp tuxedo-inspired cuts, wide-leg trousers, and architectural jackets reinterpret black-tie dressing with a modern edge,” says Ashish.
He further adds, “The collection creates a visual symphony formal yet effortless, precise yet fluid. Partnering with R|Elan™ allows us to push the boundaries of fabric innovation, creating pieces that empower women and men to move with confidence, freedom, and undeniable flair.”
