GTA 6 launch is confirmed for sometime next year but the company making the popular title has given a reality check on use of AI.

GTA 6 is a complex game part of a popular franchise
AI has taken over the agenda for tech companies and that has resulted in the money being spent on hiring people being moved to buying GPUs to keep the systems running. The tech is even affecting other segments, including gaming where you have built-in tools now part of the media setup.
But can AI be relied on to make a full-fledged game like the Grand Theft Auto (GTA) 6 in this day and age? Take Two Interactive which owns Rockstar Games, the creators of the GTA franchisee feel that AI is good and powerful but not enough to replace the effort that it takes to develop a goliath like the GTA.
Strauss Zelnick, CEO at Take Two has pointed out the ‘limited’ impact of AI in the gaming arena and its lack of creativity means AI cannot create a game like GTA from scratch.
Zelnick was quoted in a CNBC interview, where he was dismissive about AI’s impact in the gaming industry. He is mindful about the IP situation that arises when AI creates content, and various copyright lawsuits vouch for his concerns.
No Creativity In AI
AI models and tools are helpful and make tasks easy but they still need the raw input/prompt to deliver the results, and that’s where Zelnick feels the tech is not highly creative which limits its impact in the gaming circuit.
“Let’s say there were no constraints. Could we push a button tomorrow and create an equivalent to the ‘Grand Theft Auto’ marketing plan?” Zelnick was quoted saying. “The answer is no. A, you can’t do that yet, and B, I am of the view that you wouldn’t end up with anything very good. You end up with something pretty derivative.”
It is intriguing to get a different and critical view around AI from someone within the gaming industry. And it comes at a time when some of the leading names have mandated the use of AI tools for building new titles. Some like Electronic Arts have teamed up with AI companies to build new interface, workflows to help creative people integrate AI into their system.
GTA 6 is launching next year and by then we expect the views around AI to change, where companies force more of its employees work in tandem for future titles.
