Rohit Sharma, Gautam Gambhir, Yuvraj Singh and Rishabh Pant took to social media to celebrate India booking their place in the ICC Women’s World Cup 2025 final after beating Australia in the semi-final at the Dr DY Patil Sports Academy in Navi Mumbai on Thursday.
India will face South Africa in the final at the same venue on Sunday with the 50-over marquee tournament to get a new champion.

How India Beat Australia?
India ended Australia’s title defence and secured their place in Sunday’s women’s World Cup final against South Africa, thanks to Jemimah Rodrigues’ unbeaten 127, leading to a thrilling five-wicket victory in the second semi-final on Thursday.
Choosing to bat first, Australia posted a formidable 338 all out, with opener Phoebe Litchfield (119) giving them a strong start. Contributions from Ellyse Perry and Ashleigh Gardner, both scoring fifties, further boosted the total at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai.
Upon resumption, Rodrigues delivered a remarkable performance, hitting 14 fours as India achieved the highest successful chase in women’s ODI history, with nine balls remaining. This result ensures a new ODI world champion will be crowned on Sunday.
Seven-time champions Australia had previously accomplished a record chase in a 661-run thriller against India during the league phase of the tournament. In the rematch, they once again posted a substantial total after opting to bat.
Australia’s captain Alyssa Healy received an early reprieve when India’s captain Harmanpreet Kaur dropped a catch at mid-off, but Healy couldn’t capitalize on the opportunity, getting bowled out for five.
Litchfield raced to a century in just 77 balls during a 155-run partnership with Perry, bringing Australia to 159-1 at the halfway mark of their innings.
Litchfield was on 102 when India’s wicketkeeper Richa Ghosh dropped a catch, and the batter subsequently hit spinner Deepti Sharma for consecutive sixes, further adding to India’s woes. Her 93-ball innings, featuring three sixes and 17 fours, ended when she attempted a scoop shot against Amanjot Kaur and lost her middle stump.
India then took quick wickets to slow Australia’s momentum, but Gardner (63) helped push the total past the 300-mark before they were all out with one delivery remaining.
Shafali Verma (10), who replaced injured opener Pratika Rawal, couldn’t make an impact, and India’s chase suffered a setback when Smriti Mandhana, their leading scorer of the tournament, was dismissed after a run-a-ball 24.
A crucial 167-run partnership between Rodrigues and Harmanpreet (89) revived India’s chase.
Annabel Sutherland prevented Harmanpreet from reaching a century, but Rodrigues benefited from two dropped catches, on 82 and 106, which proved decisive in the end.
