Apple’s MacBook, iPad and Mini set for a big upgrade

Apple is looking for more upgrades to its products that can invariably make them appealing to buyers. The company wants to dish out OLED displays not just for the MacBook Pro, but even the MacBook Air, iPad Air and even the iPad Mini model in the next few years. 

This has been mentioned in a report by Bloomberg which also points out that the iPad Mini could be the first in line for the OLED upgrade and it can happen next year itself. Having an OLED panel not only helps with better display quality but also improves the way the battery performs and you get more life from the device. 

OLED Upgrades Incoming: Good News For Buyers? 

Apple’s OLED plans have been mentioned before but this is the first time we are seeing reports about an overhaul for all its products. The iPad Mini with OLED display is likely to be introduced sometime in 2026 and this model is also tipped to come with a new casing which gives it protection against water splashes like iPhones. 

Will that include an IP67 or IP68 rating like the iPhones? We’ll have to wait and see how Apple plans to integrate these changes. However, the report suggests these upgrades could increase the iPad Mini launch price by $100 (Rs 8,400 approx) in the market. 

The iPad Air will also be getting the OLED overhaul but not with the M5 version that is expected to be announced next year. Instead, the OLED iPad Air could be lining up in 2027 while the MacBook Air change is not likely before 2028. The M5 MacBook Air will continue to have the same LCD display that we have got with the last two iterations. 

Things don’t end there as 12 months later we could get our hands on the first-ever iPad foldable from the company which is already facing multiple delays owing to design and durability challenges. 

The company has other big things to handle, most notably entering the AI battle with OpenAI and Google in full form, have Siri AI work as it advertises and also have the right product focus with the first iPhone Fold model.
