WhatsApp is getting one step closer to becoming a Facebook clone and the messaging app could soon have the option of having a cover photo for user profiles. WhatsApp users have relied on profile photos to help people identify their messages but bringing a cover photo just adds another Meta-like element to the platform that we’re not sure if users really want or asked for.

The feature is being tested within the beta-sphere for now but its public rollout cannot be ruled out in the next few months.

WhatsApp Cover Photo Feature: What It Offers?

As you would expect, the cover photo option will be available within the profile settings for users. The details shared by WabetaInfo suggests the cover photo will cover the profile photo and adds further level of personalisation on the messaging app. We’ve seen this on apps like Facebook, LinkedIn and even X (formerly Twitter).

The size of the cover photo is wider and bigger than the profile photo and you can add any visual to match the personality or mood. The tipster has even shared how the cover photo feature will work on WhatsApp and you can make it visible to everyone, my contacts or block its access to everybody. The feature will be available in settings – privacy tab of the messaging app.

The cover photo option is being tested with the WhatsApp Android beta but the tests are internally being done and should be available to more users in the coming weeks.

Like we said before, WhatsApp has offered cover photos for the Business profiles earlier and bringing this feature for all users is just part of an extension that works across all Meta products these days. We will be seeing more Meta influence on the platform in the next few months.

WhatsApp is worried about the influx of many AI assistants on the platform that can easily reach billions of users. So, Meta, the parent company of WhatsApp is bending the rules to thwart such operations on the platform and stop its rivals from growing at its behest.

The company has now changed the rules by stopping these companies from building their AI assistant bots and making them available on WhatsApp. This is a big jolt for ChatGPT and Perplexity among others who have offered their WhatsApp bots to make the features widely available.
