Located in the centre of Mumbai, Dharavi is one of the most densely populated areas in the world. It is home to over a million people within just a few square miles. Amid these compact spaces, one woman’s story is now winning hearts online.
During his visit to Mumbai, American YouTuber Drew Binsky met Divya, a resident of Dharavi, who invited him to visit her home. She offered the YouTuber a quick tour, conversing in impressively fluent English.
A Look Inside A Dharavi’s House
The video begins with Drew introducing the visit by saying, “I’m in Dharavi, Mumbai, where over a million people live within one square mile, and Divya is going to give us a tour of her house.”
Divya starts the tour by showing her kitchen, where a fridge and TV are placed side by side. She then moves to another section that includes the traditional squatting-style toilet, which is blue in colour. She also shows a washing machine and an air conditioner, all arranged within the limited space of the home. Divya also takes him to the small loft area above, where one person can sleep comfortably.
When Drew asks how she feels living in such a small house, Divya smiles and says, “Your heart has to be big.” She adds, “The house is small, but we are happy. We live with the family, eat together, sleep together — everything is together.”
At the end of the video, Drew asks Divya what message she would like to share with the world. Her answer is short but meaningful: “Be happy. Love yourself.”
