SpaceX and Tesla CEO’s non-woke alternative to Wikipedia, Grokipedia, currently has some entries that appear to be word for word the same as the corresponding Wikipedia entries.

Elon Musk’s Grokipedia, launched as a ‘non-woke’ alternative to Wikipedia, went live on Monday, with its creator claiming the new site is already better than the world’s free online encyclopaedia. Musk also promised that the next version will be “10 times better” than Wikipedia, which remains the ninth most visited website on the internet.
“Grokipedia.com version 0.1 is now live. Version 1.0 will be 10X better, but even at 0.1 it’s better than Wikipedia imo,” Musk said in a post on X.
According to a report by NBC News, and as verified by News18, some Grokipedia entries, including the one for Monday, appeared identical to their Wikipedia counterparts at the time of writing.
Still, many users on X, formerly Twitter, echoed Musk’s claim that Grokipedia offered a more balanced take on controversial subjects.
“Note the difference between Wikipedia’s first paragraph on George Floyd compared to the first paragraph from Grokipedia. The nuance and detail on Grokipedia is FAR superior to Wikipedia and is clearly not pushing any ideologies, unlike Wikipedia. Corrections like this are critical to our AI future. Thank you Elon and @xai,” wrote user Dillon Loomis.
Musk responded, saying, “The goal of Grok and Grokipedia is the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth. We will never be perfect, but we shall nonetheless strive towards that goal.”
Others, however, were less convinced. “It still reads pretty biased to me, just in a different direction. It almost reads like it’s trying too hard to not be biased. I do think overall it is an improvement though, and I can see how with some tuning it will improve further. I am cautiously optimistic about Grokipedia,” said Nick, a former Google employee.
Some entries on Grokipedia appear to have been lifted directly from Wikipedia. A few pages, such as the one on the Nobel Prize in Physics, carry a disclaimer at the bottom saying, “The content is adapted from Wikipedia, licensed under Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 License.” But the note doesn’t appear on all entries.

Elon Musk, however, has said he wants Grok to stop using Wikipedia as a source by the end of this year.
The Wikimedia Foundation, which runs Wikipedia, said on Monday that it was still examining how Grokipedia functions.
“Wikipedia’s knowledge is — and always will be — human,” the foundation said in a statement. “Through open collaboration and consensus, people from all backgrounds build a neutral, living record of human understanding — one that reflects our diversity and collective curiosity. This human-created knowledge is what AI companies rely on to generate content; even Grokipedia needs Wikipedia to exist.”
It added that efforts to create rival versions of Wikipedia were nothing new. “Many experiments to create alternative versions of Wikipedia have happened before; it doesn’t interfere with our work or mission,” the statement said.
The Grokipedia initiative effectively pits Elon Musk, who is the world’s richest man, against one of the most visited and enduring websites on the internet.
