Microsoft is not going to copy OpenAI with its focus on adult content through AI chatbots and the company has its reasons.

OpenAI is going beyond the age-ification to bring adult content or erotica with ChatGPT for its users but Microsoft is not looking for a similar path and it never plans to make AI models for these purposes.

Promises are generally meant to be broken but the company’s AI chief Mustafa Suleyman seems determined to buck the trend and stay true to its origins. “That’s just not a service we’re going to provide,” Suleyman was quoted saying at a recent event regarding their view on bringing erotica via AI models.

OpenAI and other companies seem willing to bring adult-oriented content to their AI chatbots but Microsoft does not see any value in these offerings.

No Adult Content: Right Move?

OpenAI and Grok have added these versions to their AI model catalogue, where the latter even has animated virtual characters that people can openly talk to.

Microsoft predominantly caters to businesses and bringing adult content will be against its ideology and we just can’t see Satya Nadella and Co. signing off these additions at least till he is at the helm of the tech giant.

Sam Altman at OpenAI has talked about breaking the shackles of age-gating and allowing people to express themselves freely with the AI chatbot. And it just sounds like another way to add more people to its AI roster in the long run. He also needs to keep the valuation of his company in mind, which explains the focus on AI-centric hardware devices.

For Microsoft the stakes are much higher when they have customers in the business segment and the last thing they want is for these companies to see AI chatbots with adult content being on their radar.

The whole adulting of ChatGPT will have the age verification process involved and that means more loopholes to break, unless OpenAI can have a foolproof structure that prevents false identities.

The restrictive nature of ChatGPT going away means the next few updates will have people talking about its enjoyable nature but bring back the early scars as well, unless they have fixed all those issues.
