The Indian women’s team were dealt an injury scare right before the crucial ICC World Cup semi-final as Pratika Rawal limped off the field after twisting her right ankle badly, on Sunday. The opening batter suffered the bizarre injury while attempting to stop the ball, which was racing towards the mid-wicket boundary.

The incident unfolded in the 21st over when Sharmin Akhter swiped Deepti Sharma’s delivery across the line. Pratika ran across the midwicket boundary but overran the ball as it plugged on the outfield. As she tried turning back, her right boot got stuck on the turf, twisting her ankle as she fell in pain.

The physio rushed to check on her as Rawal was grimacing in pain. She was escorted out of the field shortly, with doubts looming over her participation in India’s run chase.
