Chhath Puja 2025 Nahay Khay Muhurat: The auspicious day of Chhath Puja is celebrated to honour the Sun God. During Chhath Puja, devotees worship Lord Surya, who is revered as the creator of the universe and the source of all life on Earth. This is one of the most auspicious holidays celebrated in Bihar, Jharkhand and eastern Uttar Pradesh. Fasting during Chhath Puja is primarily observed by mothers for their sons. This year, the festival starts on October 25.
Chhath Puja 2025 Nahay Khay: Shubh Muhurat
The festivities begin with Nahay Khay, which takes place on the Chaturthi Tithi of Kartik Shukla Paksha. This is followed by Kharna on Panchami Tithi, Chhath Puja on Shashti and Usha Arghya on Saptami Tithi.
As per Drik Panchang, Sunrise on the Nahay Khay day, October 25, will be at 6:28 AM and Sunset at 5:42 PM.
Chhath Puja 2025 Nahay Khay: Puja Vidhi
During the first day of Chhath Puja, devotees rise early to worship Lord Surya. This day marks the beginning of the four-day fasting period. Devotees fast and cook chana dal and pumpkin rice as prasad for the Sun God.

Prasad is made from rock salt and adheres fully to Satvik principles. After serving the food to the Chhathi Maiya, the fasting devotee eat the prasad first, then shares it with family members. Additionally, devotees offer milk and water to Lord Surya.
Nahay Khay is followed by Kharna which is the second day of Chhath. From daybreak to sunset, they fast without drinking water. The fast is broken shortly after dusk with an offering to the Sun God.
On the third day of Chhath Puja, a complete fast without water is observed. The day’s main ceremony is to present Arghya to the setting sun, also known as Sandhya Arghya. It is the only time of year when Arghya is focused on the setting Sun. The third day of fasting continues through the night.
On the fourth and last day of Chhath, Arghya is presented to the rising Sun, known as Usha Arghya. The 36-hour fast is broken by offering Arghya to the Sun.
