The festival of Bhai Dooj celebrates the unbreakable bond between brothers and sisters.
Bhai Dooj, also known as Bhai Beej, is a festival that celebrates the unbreakable bond between brothers and sisters. On this day, sisters invite their brothers home, perform the tilak ceremony, and pray for their long life, success, and happiness. While most follow tradition, few know that Vastu Shastra also offers specific guidelines on how to perform the ritual for maximum positivity and harmony at home.
Which Direction Should The Brother Face?
According to astrologer and Vastu expert Anshul Tripathi, the direction you face during the tilak ceremony plays a vital role in balancing energy. The brother should sit facing north or east, as these directions are considered highly auspicious.
The north direction is associated with prosperity and opportunities. Performing the tilak in this direction is believed to bring stability and financial growth in the brother’s life. The east direction, on the other hand, represents wisdom, intellect, and positive energy — ensuring peace, progress, and mental clarity.
If the brother faces north or east, the sister should sit facing south or west. This alignment maintains an energetic balance between the two, making the ritual more harmonious and spiritually fulfilling.
The Auspicious Colour For Tilak
As per Vastu, the tilak on Bhai Dooj should ideally be done using red colour, symbolising energy, courage, and love. You can also mix a few grains of rice into the red kumkum for added good fortune. This combination is said to bring stability, progress, and positivity into the brother’s life.
If you’re unsure about directions, you can simply use a mobile compass to find the right one before beginning the ritual.
Bhai Dooj Date & Muhurat
As noted by Drik Panchang, for New Delhi, Yama Dwitiya Tithi begins on Thursday, October 22, at 08.16 p.m. and concludes at 10.46 p.m. on October 23.
The auspicious timings for the Tilak ceremony itself are during the Aparahna or afternoon period, for two hours and fifteen minutes. It begins at 01.13 PM and ends at 3.28 PM, on October 23. Timings will vary slightly based on the region across India.
