Chrome security issues are becoming far too regular and the latest concern has forced the Indian government to alert the users.
Chrome security risk for Windows and Mac users, and they are being warned.
Google Chrome users on Windows and Macs have been warned about a serious issue that can make it easy for hackers to bypass the security and steal information. The alert from the Indian government this week is also making millions of PC/Mac users aware about the situation and asking them to act on these concerns right away.
The alert has been issued by the Indian Computer Emergency Response Team or CERT-IN, on October 8, 2025 comes with a ‘high-severity’ alert to users of Google Chrome on popular platforms like Windows, macOS and Linux.
The CERT-In warning for Chrome this week clearly highlights issues with multiple components in the web browser that can be exploited by attackers to control the devices or steal data. “Multiple vulnerabilities exist in Google Chrome due to Heap buffer overflow in Sync, Use after free in Storage and Out of bounds read in WebCodecs. A remote attacker could exploit these vulnerabilities by persuading a victim to visit a specially crafted web page.” the CERT-In bulletin explains.
Warnings like these are not new but Chrome is popular among users, which makes it a prime target for hackers, especially if they have security issues to exploit and steal data.
Chrome Security Warning: Who Is At Risk?
The security agency has highlighted the Chrome versions on Windows, macOS and Linux that can be targeted because of the issues:
- Google Chrome versions prior to 141.0.7390.65/.66 for Windows and Mac
- Google Chrome versions prior to 141.0.7390.65 for Linux
The advice from CERT-In also points out that hackers can look to target businesses and personal Chrome users on desktop which means nobody is safe from their prying eyes.
Chrome Security Risk: Update Now
Chrome users have been issued the new security patch that handles the risks posed by the vulnerabilities and you should update to the latest version right away using these steps:
- Access the menu with three dots located in the upper left corner
- Click on ‘Help’
- Click on ‘About Google Chrome
- Chrome will auto-check for updates and install for your version
