Bihar and Rajasthan Royals’ teen sensation Vaibhav Suryavanshi’s popularity continues to soar through the roof ever since he stole the limelight with a record-breaking century in the Indian Premier League 2025. Having become IPL’s youngest ever centurion against the Gujarat Titans, the 14-year-old prodigy has received a level of fanfare and attention seldom witnessed for a young, uncapped player.

Following a tremendous maiden IPL campaign for the Royals, Suryavanshi went on successful U19 trips for India to England and Australia before returning to the domestic cricket scene this week for Bihar. He played the first-round Plate League fixture of the Ranji Trophy 2025-26 against Arunachal Pradesh.

The swashbuckling left-hander’s return to the Moin-ul-Haq Stadium in Patna didn’t go according to plan as he was out for 14 in Bihar’s only batting effort in their victory by an innings & 165 runs. But the childhood prodigy had much to smile about after many locals arrived at the venue to catch a glimpse of him in action and cheered wholeheartedly for the son of the soil.

A popular account on Instagram shared the heartening moment via a clip, playing the famous song ‘Jiya Ho Bihar ke Lala’ while Suryavanshi went up to the excited supporters and greeted them warmly. These hundreds of fans eagerly awaiting Suryavanshi near the stands had their day made after the hometown hero smiled and waved at them.

Reinforcing Suryavanshi’s quick rise in stature was Bihar’s decision to elevate the teenager to vice-captaincy of their Ranji Trophy outfit. The Royals’ exciting match-winner will be featuring for the Plate League side in the first two games of the season as a deputy to skipper Sakibul Gani. Only two years back, Suryavanshi had made his first-class debut for the state at the age of 12 during the 2023-24 season.

Bihar will be hoping for Suryavanshi to shine in their next match against Manipur from Saturday, October 25, as they look to script a turnaround and qualify for the Ranji Trophy’s Elite League after being relegated last season due to a winless campaign.
