The Australia men’s cricket team will face India in a three-match ODI series. The series opener is scheduled to take place at Optus Stadium in Perth on October 19, and the next two matches will be played on October 23 and 25 in Adelaide and Sydney, respectively. Cricket Australia (CA) on Tuesday (October 7) announced Australia’s squad for the three ODIs and first two T20I matches. In the 15-member team picked up for the three 50-over matches, Pat Cummins was not included.
Cummins is out of action these days due to injury, but his fast bowling partners Josh Hazlewood and Mitchell Starc were picked up for the three matches. Starc last played an ODI match for the six-time champions in November 2024 against Pakistan.
In Cummins’ absence, T20I captain Mitchell Marsh will also captain the Men in Yellow in three ODI matches, and the squad also includes the likes of Cameron Green, Travis Head and Adam Zampa.
Marsh will open the innings for the hosts with Head, and Green is expected to bat at No. 3.
In his last ODI match for Australia, the right-handed batting all-rounder scored 118 runs from just 55 balls.
Josh Inglis, Alex Carey, Mitchell Owen and Cooper Connolly will bat in the middle order, and Zampa is set to lead the spin attack. Starc and Hazlewood will open the attack, and Nathan Ellis will be the third pacer. Xavier Bartlett and Ben Dwarshuis are two fast bowlers picked for the home series against India.

Gill to captain India, no Bumrah
World No. 1 ODI batter Shubman Gill will captain India in the three-match ODI series against Australia. The 26-year-old right-handed batter from Punjab was appointed as India’s new ODI captain on October 4 in place of Rohit Sharma. Rohit is included in India’s squad as a specialist batter along with Virat Kohli, but Jasprit Bumrah is rested for the three 50-over matches. Bumrah hasn’t played an ODI match for India since taking the field against Australia in the final of the ODI World Cup 2023 on November 19 in Ahmedabad.
