He might be representing an India U19 team currently, but Rajasthan Royals are keeping close eye on teenage batting sensation Vaibhav Suryavanshi. Since his record-breaking century for RR against the Gujarat Titans in IPL 2025 that turned him into a household name in India, the babyface prodigy has proven his talent on U19 tours to England and Australia.

Suryavanshi, who smashed a fantastic 113 off just 86 deliveries in the first Youth Test against Australia U19 in Brisbane, was preparing for the second game of the red-ball development series when he got a call from the ex-India cricketer and current RR batting coach Vikram Rathour.

During the video interaction, Rathour asked Suryavanshi about his batting and encouraged him to “keep enjoying” his game.

But the conversation soon shifted to Suryavanshi’s fitness and whether he was keeping himself in the best possible physical shape Down Under.

Fitness kaisa chal raha hai (How’s the fitness going?),” asked Rathour, to which Suryavanshi replied: “Accha chal raha hai (it’s going well).”

Rathour then pulled the 14-year-old’s leg and said, “Woh toh dekhne main pata chalega. Aaja tu (That we will know only when I see you. First you come back).”

Perhaps used to Rathour’s ways, Suryavanshi realised he was being teased and quietly replied “yes” to what was a playful warning to look after his fitness and maintain focus on his training drills, not just smashing the opposition pacers out of the park.

Suryavanshi then bid goodbye to Rathour and another member of the Royals coaching staff before ending the call from Australia.

After a tremendous IPL 2025, where he won over even Royals’ former head coach and India legend Rahul Dravid, Suryavanshi has only kept rising through the ranks.

Having struck his 252 runs at a strike-rate of 206.55 for the Royals, Suryavanshi top-scored for India U19 in their five-match Youth One-Day series versus England with 355 runs, including a best of 143.

On that trip, the youngster missed out on big runs during the red-ball leg, but he made amends against the Aussies last week, hitting a fantastic hundred at the Ian Healy Oval in Brisbane in his team’s massive victory.
