UPI apps now let you change the ID and personalise it
UPI payments in India have become ubiquitous, recording transitions in big crores every month. But this popularity has made it an obvious target for scammers who prey on innocent victims and coax them into sending money or exposing their confidential bank details to steal money.
Which is why UPI payments need better security measures, especially with regards to the UPI ID that people share or reveal to the sender and that makes their privacy less secure. But finally you have a way to hide the mobile number from your UPI ID and even have the option to customise the IDs just like how you would do for emails or any other digital account.
UPI will soon get more changes which promises to make payments more reliable and secure but changing the UPI ID is a sure shot way to hide your personal details from anyone you send money or receive from.
UPI ID For Payments: Time To Change
The support for changing UPI ID has been asked by many users and it is gradually coming to the popular UPI-compatible apps available in the country. We got the new update on Paytm where changing the UPI ID is quite easy and we assume the process will be the same across all the UPI apps.
- Open Paytm app on your phone
- Go to your Profile icon on the top-left
- Scroll down to UPI & Payment settings
- Now you will see all the UPI account and ID details
- At the top of the screen you will see the current UPI ID
- Tap on view to see all the UPI IDs linked to your account
- You can now create a new UPI with alphabets and digits
- Paytm also lets you create backup UPI IDs to avoid payment failures
Personalising the UPI ID is a definite helpful addition for millions of UPI users who don’t have to share their mobile number which has mostly been linked to the UPI ID that has become a privacy concern for many.
In addition to this, UPI payments through these apps will become less scary because Paytm, Google Pay and PhonePe among others have been ordered to stop letting payment requests go through any of these UPI apps from October 2 onwards in the country.
