Now, passengers travelling to and from Mumbai have been advised to double-check their flight details — particularly the airport code.
While the current Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) in Andheri will continue to use the code ‘BOM,’ NMIA has been given the International Air Transport Association (IATA) code ‘NMI.’
Furthermore, NMIA’s International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) code is ‘VANM.’
Please note the new three letters code is NMI as per IATA so now if you travel to Mumbai check the three letters code at the time of making your airlines flight ticket..

Booking your flights: what to watch for
When booking, passengers planning to depart from the new NMIA should check ‘NMI’ as the departure airport option. Major booking platforms are currently being modified to incorporate NMIA, including airline websites and aggregators like MakeMyTrip, Cleartrip, Yatra, and Ixigo.
If ‘NMI’ does not appear yet, it probably indicates that flights have not yet begun operating on your route.
Travellers should also make sure that ‘NMI’ is mentioned explicitly on their tickets if they want to use the Navi Mumbai airport, to prevent confusion with BOM.
Which airlines and flights will be available?
One of the first airlines to operate out of NMIA will be IndiGo. It intends to start with roughly 18 flights per day, connecting more than 15 domestic cities, and gradually add more (including international routes) by 2026.
Additionally, Akasa Air announced that it will begin operations on day one, with roughly 100 weekly domestic flights, and then scale up to include international flights.
Moderate operations will be the norm during the first phase of NMIA, which is expected to accommodate about 20 million passengers yearly.
Departure tips from NMIA
Arrive at least two hours before your domestic flight; it is safer to arrive a little earlier for international flights.
Keep your ID and boarding pass close at hand. Electronics, gadgets, and devices should be kept in carry-on luggage.
Avoiding sharp things, flammables, and any other forbidden goods is necessary to easily pass security checks.
If you are not familiar with the layout of the new terminal, keep an eye out for signage and staff assistance.
How to reach NMIA
NMIA is situated in the Raigad district of Ulwe, close to Panvel, Navi Mumbai. Connectivity options include:
One of the main routes is the Sion-Panvel Highway. Additionally, the Mumbai Trans Harbour Link (Atal Setu) will shorten travel times by connecting South Mumbai directly to NMIA.
The planned elevated road with several interchanges is accessible from Thane and is intended to drastically cut down on travel time.
Panvel Railway Station on the CR Harbour Line is adjacent to NMIA. Passengers can use the Panvel railway station as well as road and metro links to reach NMIA.
