India may Pakistan again in the Asia Cup 2025

Former India cricketer Madan Lal said that India should compete with Pakistan again in the Asia Cup if the latter make it to the Super 4 stage. On Sunday, Suryakumar Yadav & Co. exposed Pakistan’s toothless strategy with a daunting 7-wicket win. While India has sealed a berth in the next stage, Pakistan need to beat the UAE to qualify. And if they achieve it, the coming Sunday will witness another India vs Pakistan encounter in Dubai.

Though there has been a rising demand for boycotting India vs Pakistan matches, the BCCI are following the government’s instruction. While there are no bilateral activities between the teams, India and Pakistan are bound to compete against each other in multi-national competitions.

Speaking to CNN-News18, Lal suggested that India should face Pakistan again to make them aware of their cricketing crisis.

“Not playing against each other doesn’t solve anything. A lot of people talk about money. Can you run the game without money? No,” Madan Lal told CNN-News18.

“Just look at the BCCI. It’s a multi-million industry now, taking Indian cricket to unprecedented heights. They focus on bettering infrastructure, creating a competitive environment by conducting India A matches, and whatnot. And that’s why our team’s standard is so high.”

Lal explained it further, citing Pakistan’s struggles against a power-packed India.

“Look at Pakistan. Jaisa wo khele hain… unmein talent hi nahi hai (They lack talent big time). I’ve never seen such shot-making in international cricket. Complete lack of skill,” he added.

The former fast bowler further highlighted that Pakistan will also get the money for their participation in the Asia Cup, but India will make better use of that.

“We definitely make better utilisation of money. Even the BCCI gives a pension to former cricketers, which is such a huge help. They are doing a great job. But Pakistan sudhrega nahi… (Pakistan will never improve),” he said.

“Harming others is not our culture. But Pakistan keeps on troubling us, despite our repeated initiatives to maintain peace. They never accepted it. And just look where they stand right now. The world has changed in the past 75 years, but they are still stuck in the past,” Lal added.

The 1983 World Cup winner recalled Pakistan’s golden years in international cricket, taking another brutal jibe at the current team.

“Players do get affected when they don’t get the desired result. But we are better sportspeople than Pakistan. Their [former] players keep abusing the current ones playing for the country. We do criticise our players too, but we don’t go after them.

“They used to have a strong team when we played. But look at them now. But their cricket is influenced by their army. They only take the crucial calls.”

Madan Lal concluded by wishing India all the best for the remaining Asia Cup fixtures.

“Play the game the way it should be played. Keep your spirits high. Play hard and win it. Bring the Asia Cup home,” Madan Lal said.
