Markram is no stranger to leadership in the SA20. He guided Sunrisers Eastern Cape to back-to-back titles in 2023 and 2024, establishing himself as one of the league’s most reliable captains. Beyond franchise cricket, he also leads South Africa’s T20I side, further strengthening his credentials as a proven leader.
The 30-year-old was one of the most sought-after players in this year’s SA20 auction. After parting ways with Sunrisers Eastern Cape, he sparked a fierce bidding war, eventually landing at DSG for a record 14 million rand. The figure briefly stood as the highest in league history before Pretoria Capitals secured Dewald Brevis for 16.5 million rand.
For Durban, Markram’s signing is both a marquee addition and a strategic choice. The franchise is still searching for its first SA20 title. In 2024, they made it all the way to the final but lost to Sunrisers Eastern Cape—ironically led by Markram at the time. The season before, they had finished bottom of the table, forcing them to rethink their strategy and make bold moves to strengthen their squad.
With Lance Klusener continuing as head coach and Markram now at the helm, the Super Giants are aiming to convert potential into silverware.
