Saptami Shradh 2025 – Pitru Paksha: September 13 marks the Saptami tithi of the month of Ashwin, which falls on a Saturday. During Pitru Paksha (Shradh Paksha), a special Shradh ritual is performed on specific tithis each day.
The Saptami tithi holds particular significance and is also known as Ghat Saptami. On this day, the Shradh is dedicated to those ancestors who passed away on the Saptami tithi. It is believed that performing Shradh on this day not only satisfies the departed souls but also brings happiness and prosperity to the family.

Who Should Perform Shradh On Saptami Tithi?
Shradh on Saptami is performed for those whose death occurred on the Saptami tithi. It is particularly observed for men who died young and unmarried individuals. The ritual, also known as Ghat Saptami, is believed to grant peace to the souls of ancestors who died prematurely or unnaturally, bringing well-being and prosperity to the family.
Shradh is especially for ancestors who passed away due to:
- Sudden accidents such as drowning, fire, vehicle mishaps, or falls
- Violence or murder
- Poisoning
- Death during miscarriage or childbirth
- Premature or untimely death
How To Perform Saptami Shradh?
- Rise early, bathe, and face southwards while reciting the names of your ancestors, taking a vow to perform Shradh on Saptami tithi.
- Prepare a clean space with kusa grass.
- Offer pind daan using black sesame seeds, rice, and water. (Make pinds from a mixture of rice, barley flour, sesame seeds, and honey.)
- While offering sesame-infused water, chant the mantra “Om Pitribhya Swadha“.
- At midday, provide food and dakshina to a Brahmin.
- Feeding cows, dogs, crows, and the needy is also considered an integral part of the ritual.
- Conclude by praying for the blessings of the ancestors to continue bestowing grace and protection on the family.
