iPhone 17 gets a bigger display, more hardware power and a higher price tag but how does it compare with the iPhone 16?

iPhone 17 from Apple has got some major upgrades this year which takes it closer to the Pro-level devices for the first time. The company has also made the 256GB as the base model with the iPhone 17 which now gets new colour shades too.
All this and the iPhone 17 price in India has gone up for various reasons but the comparison with iPhone 16 was always going to be on the cards. iPhone 17 price in India starts at Rs 82,900 going up to Rs 1,02,900 for the higher 512GB model. The iPhone 16 is now available for Rs 69,900 but only for the 128GB variant in the country.
iPhone 17 Vs iPhone 16 Design
iPhone 17 gets an aluminium design, with ceramic shield 2 protection on the front. The device comes at 7.95mm thickness and weighs 177 grams. It does get an IP68 rating which is always handy. The iPhone 16 gets a glass front and back body with an aluminium frame. The model is slightly thinner at 7.8mm and lighter than the 17 at 170 grams. This one also comes with IP68 rating for protection.

iPhone 17 gets a slightly bigger 6.3-inch Super Retina XDR display but with ProMotion 120Hz refresh rate and Always-on-display support. It also sees a bump in the brightness level with now 3,000 nits available for outdoors. The anti-reflective coating is another useful addition. Compared to this, the iPhone 16 sports a 6.1-inch Super Retina XDR display with 60Hz standard refresh rate. It offers 2000 nits of peak brightness and Dolby Vision.
iPhone 17 Vs iPhone 16 Hardware Specs
iPhone 17 is powered by the new A19 chipset, most likely with 12GB RAM for Apple AI support. It will get iOS 26 update out of the box later this month and upgradeable to iOS versions for at least 6 years. You get it in 256GB and 512GB variants.
iPhone 16 got the A18 chipset with 8GB RAM and up to 512GB storage options. Apple offered iOS 18 with the device, and upgradeable to iOS 26 when it releases.
iPhone 17 Vs iPhone 16 Camera
iPhone 17 has a dual camera setup like the iPhone 16 with a 48MP sensor and a 12MP telephoto lens offered at the back. However, the front sees the 12MP shooter on the iPhone 16 upgraded to an 18MP camera on the iPhone 17 this year.
