Share Market Holiday

Share Market Holiday: Is the stock market open or closed today? Every trader/investor must have this question in their mind on account of two festival holidays – Id-Ul-Milad and Onam – across India. Thus, it’s very important to check NSE and BSE holiday calendar beforehand before the market opens at its usual time.

Id-E-Milad commemorates the birthday of Prophet Mohammad, while Thiruvonam marks the final day of the Onam festival, celebrated with grandeur in Kerala and parts of South India. These festivals hold cultural and religious significance and are marked with prayers, processions and family gatherings.

Is share market open or closed today?

According to the NSE and BSE trading holidays list, the stock market will remain open during the normal market hours as usual, which is 9:00 am to 4:00 pm. Trading in all segments, including derivatives, equities, and more will happen without any problem on the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) and the National Stock Exchange (NSE).

However, the RBI has shifted the settlement holiday to August 08, which was marked for September 05 on account of Id-Ul-Milad. In a circular, RBI said “the Government of Maharashtra has declared September 08, 2025, as a public holiday…the public holiday on September 05, 2025, declared earlier has been cancelled.”

This means settlements in certain banking transactions, including those in the government securities market, foreign exchange and money markets, will not be settled on September 08 instead of August 05.

Next Stock Market Holiday

The next stock market holiday falls on October 02, 2025 on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti, according to the NSE exchange holiday list.
