This new due date applies to individuals, Hindu Undivided Families (HUFs) and other taxpayers whose accounts don\u2019t require auditing.<\/p>\n<p id=\"2\" class=\"story_para_2\">Even though many associations and CAs are advocating to extend the due date further due to technical glitches, severe rainfalls, outages, and data mismatches in AIS and Form 26AS, there\u2019s a no official update from tax department.<\/p>\n<p>With about half of the total filers having already completed their filings, Avinash Polepally, Business Head at ClearTax said, it\u2019s evident that an extension is not likely to occur.<\/p>\n<h3>What Happens If You Miss The Due Date?<\/h3>\n<p>In case, if you miss the due date, which is September 15, then you two options:<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"564\" data-end=\"903\"><strong>Taxpayers have two options:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol data-start=\"905\" data-end=\"1231\">\n<li data-start=\"905\" data-end=\"1077\">\n<p data-start=\"908\" data-end=\"1077\">File ITR-U under Section 139(8A), which allows filing up to four years from the end of the relevant assessment year, subject to additional tax ranging from 25% to 70%.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"1078\" data-end=\"1231\">\n<p data-start=\"1081\" data-end=\"1231\">Apply for condonation of delay under Section 119(2)(b) and, upon approval, file ITR under Section 139(9A) without paying additional tax or interest.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p id=\"6\" class=\"story_para_6\">\u201cThe condonation of delay is a special relief mechanism provided by the Income Tax Department to help genuine taxpayers avoid financial penalties,&#8221; the CBDT noted in its circular.<\/p>\n<div>\n<p data-start=\"1416\" data-end=\"1464\"><strong data-start=\"1416\" data-end=\"1462\">How to File ITR After Condonation Approval<\/strong><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1466\" data-end=\"1637\">Taxpayers whose condonation requests have been approved can file their ITRs under Section 139(9A) using the offline utility on the e-Filing portal. The process includes:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"listOncontentArticleUL\" data-start=\"1639\" data-end=\"2049\">\n<li data-start=\"1639\" data-end=\"1711\">\n<p data-start=\"1641\" data-end=\"1711\">Logging in to the e-Filing portal with a valid User ID and password.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"1712\" data-end=\"1828\">\n<p data-start=\"1714\" data-end=\"1828\">Selecting the relevant assessment year and filing type \u201cu\/s 139(9A) \u2013 After Condonation of delay u\/s 119(2)(b)&#8221;.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"1829\" data-end=\"1901\">\n<p data-start=\"1831\" data-end=\"1901\">Ensuring that the condonation request is approved before proceeding.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"1902\" data-end=\"2049\">\n<p data-start=\"1904\" data-end=\"2049\">Selecting the ITR type, uploading the JSON file generated through the offline utility, and verifying the return to complete the filing process.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p data-start=\"2051\" data-end=\"2100\"><strong data-start=\"2051\" data-end=\"2098\">Preparing the ITR Using the Offline Utility<\/strong><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2102\" data-end=\"2135\">To prepare the JSON for filing:<\/p>\n<ol data-start=\"2137\" data-end=\"2486\">\n<li data-start=\"2137\" data-end=\"2201\">\n<p data-start=\"2140\" data-end=\"2201\">Download the relevant ITR utility from the e-Filing portal.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"2202\" data-end=\"2281\">\n<p data-start=\"2205\" data-end=\"2281\">Install the Excel utility on your system and fill in the required details.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"2282\" data-end=\"2416\">\n<p data-start=\"2285\" data-end=\"2416\">In the Filing Information section, mention the Unique Document Identification Number (DIN) and the date of the condonation order.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"2417\" data-end=\"2486\">\n<p data-start=\"2420\" data-end=\"2486\">Generate the JSON file and use it to file the ITR on the portal.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p data-start=\"2488\" data-end=\"2754\">Taxpayers are advised to keep a record of the transaction ID for future reference.
