The Afghanistan men\u2019s team have pledged their match fees from the ongoing T20I against UAE in Sharjah to the victims of the devastating earthquake that affected the Kunar province back home. The match is the third in a long tri-series between Afghanistan, Pakistan (where the tremors were felt, too) and the UAE.<\/p>\n

The 6.0 magnitude quake struck at 11:47 pm local time (12:47 am IST) on Sunday in the province of Kunar near the city of Jalalabad and has destroyed numerous villages, causing extensive damage. It was followed by another 4.5 magnitude tremor close to the nearby Basawul in Nangahar.<\/p>\n

Over 800 people are feared dead and thousands more injured in one of the worst tragedies the country has seen.<\/p>\n

\u201cAfghanAtalan Show Solidarity with Kunar Earthquake Victims! Afghan Atalan have committed all their match fees from tonight\u2019s game against the UAE, as well as additional donations, to assist the families affected by the recent earthquake in Kunar province,” the Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) said in a statement.<\/p>\n

\u201cAdditionally, players involved in the ongoing Regional List A Tournament in Khost province will also gather their donations tomorrow. These contributions will be immediately sent to support the affected families in Kunar during this difficult time,” the statement added.<\/p>\n

Many countries, including India, have pledged their support to the neighboring nation.<\/p>\n

\u201cDeeply saddened by the loss of lives due to the earthquake in Afghanistan. Our thoughts and prayers are with the bereaved families in this difficult hour, and we wish a speedy recovery to the injured. India stands ready to provide all possible humanitarian aid and relief to those affected,” Prime Minister Narendra Modi said in a statement.<\/p>\n

The cricket has gone on hundreds of kilometres away, though the Afghanistan players had clearly solemn moods. At the time of writing this piece, Afghanistan had scored 188\/4 in the first innings with fifties from Sediqullah Atal and Ibrahim Zadran. Muhammad Rohid Khan and Saghir Khan took two wickets each for the UAE and the home side were 111\/6 in 15 overs in response, staring at a big defeat.<\/p>\n
