Sensex Today: <\/strong>Indian equities opened higher on Monday, defying weakness in global markets, led by gains in Infosys, Power Grid, Bajaj Auto, HDFC Life, Adani Enterprises, TCS, IndusInd Bank, Tech Mahindra, and Trent.<\/p>\n

The BSE Sensex rose 242 points, or 0.30 per cent, to trade near 80,052, while the Nifty50 advanced 81 points, or 0.33 per cent, to 24,508. In the broader market, the Nifty MidCap index climbed 0.70 per cent and the Nifty SmallCap index added 0.54 per cent.<\/p>\n

Investors are keeping a close watch on India\u2013US trade relations after the US Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit ruled that President Donald Trump had exceeded his authority by imposing sweeping tariffs under his April 2 \u201cliberation day” declaration. The court, however, left the levies in place.<\/p>\n

Market sentiment will also be shaped by the release of August auto sales data and the HSBC Manufacturing PMI Final for August, both due later in the day.<\/p>\n

Among sectors, Nifty IT was the top performer, gaining 1.2 per cent in early trade.<\/p>\n

Gold, Silver Scale Record Highs on MCX Amid Tariff Uncertainty<\/strong><\/p>\n

Gold prices surged to fresh record highs on the Multi-Commodity Exchange (MCX) on Monday, with futures touching Rs 1,04,900 per 10 grams, up 1 per cent.<\/p>\n

Silver also climbed to an all-time high, rising 2 per cent to Rs 1,24,141 per kg.<\/p>\n

Global Cues<\/strong><\/p>\n

Across Asia, markets opened largely lower on Monday after a US federal appeals court ruled that President Donald Trump\u2019s \u201creciprocal tariffs” were illegal, saying he had overstepped his authority by imposing sweeping levies on nearly all major trading partners under his April 2 \u201cliberation day” declaration. Japan\u2019s Nikkei 225 fell 0.92 per cent, South Korea\u2019s Kospi dropped 0.85 per cent, and Australia\u2019s S&P\/ASX 200 slipped 0.17 per cent. In contrast, China\u2019s Shanghai Composite gained 0.20 per cent.<\/p>\n

On Wall Street, major indices closed in the red on Friday, August 29, as investors digested fresh inflation data showing tariffs feeding into consumer prices. The S&P 500 fell 0.64 per cent, the tech-heavy Nasdaq Composite lost 1.15 per cent, and the Dow Jones Industrial Average slipped 0.20 per cent.<\/p>\n
